KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WLKI)- Kosciusko County law enforcement agencies have been ordered to withdraw from contracts with Flock Safety after the County Council voted to end funding for the company's license plate reader cameras and database system.
Kosciusko County Prosecutor Brad Voelz issued an administrative order Friday directing agencies to preserve evidence connected to active cases while ending their use of the system.
According to the order, agencies may retrieve existing material relevant to open investigations through 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18. New searches, live monitoring and tracking lists are prohibited immediately.
The order also bars agencies from making bulk data preservation requests. Police may retain only materials relevant to active cases and investigations.
After the deadline, the county IT department has been ordered to disable and delete user credentials and sign out devices connected to the Flock database. The Kosciusko County Highway Department and Sheriff's Office have also been instructed to remove cameras and related hardware and store the equipment until it is retrieved by Flock Safety.
Voelz said the action was intended to protect ongoing prosecutions, victims' rights and constitutional discovery obligations while the county transitions away from the system.
