(INDIANAPOLIS) - Just hours before lawmakers reconvened at the Statehouse, Inside Indiana Business reports that House Republicans released a draft congressional redistricting map that would significantly reshape political boundaries across the state. The proposal makes major changes to all nine congressional districts, with the most dramatic shift in Marion County. Instead of remaining almost entirely within Democrat André Carson's 7th District, the county would be split into four districts -- a move likely to dilute Democratic strength in Indianapolis. Another big change targets District 1 in northwest Indiana. The seat, currently held by Democrat Frank Mrvan, would lose most of Porter and LaPorte counties and stretch southeast through several rural counties, creating a district much more favorable to Republicans. The release comes during a turbulent stretch for state lawmakers, who were called into a special session after pressure from President Trump to approve GOP-leaning maps ahead of the 2026 elections. House leaders say they're ready to move forward, but the final outcome still depends on the Senate, which meets again December 8th and remains divided on whether to approve new maps. Lawmakers say public hearings will be held in both chambers, and Hoosiers are encouraged to weigh in as the debate intensifies.
