Longest-Serving U.S. Mayor Wins 51st Election On Mackinac Island

(MACKINAC ISLAND) - Mackinac Island Mayor Margaret Doud has won another term in office, extending her record as the longest-serving mayor in the United States.

According to MLive, Doud was elected Tuesday for the 51st time as mayor of Mackinac Island. She has served in the role since 1975.

Doud first took office on April 14, 1975, after defeating former mayor Otto Emmons. Her family also has deep ties to island government. Both her father and grandfather previously served as mayor of Mackinac Island.

Doud ran unopposed in this year's election.

In addition to serving as mayor, Doud is also associated with the historic Windermere Hotel on Mackinac Island.
