(ANGOLA, IN) - A new investment is aimed at addressing the ongoing childcare shortage in Steuben County.
The Steuben County Community Foundation has awarded $150,000 to support the Steuben County Early Childhood Coalition, a group working to improve access to early learning and childcare across the county.
The coalition, formed in 2023, brings together leaders from business, education, healthcare, government, and nonprofit sectors to address gaps in childcare availability, affordability, and quality.
Local leaders say the shortage of licensed childcare seats continues to impact families and employers, limiting workforce participation and creating challenges for working parents.
The new funding will help the coalition move into its next phase, including efforts to formalize as an independent nonprofit organization and build long-term structure and support.
Foundation leaders say the goal is to create more sustainable childcare options and strengthen early childhood systems in Steuben County.
