(ATLANTA) - Indiana has the lowest adult obesity rate among the tri-state area, according to new data from the CDC.

The latest federal numbers put Indiana at 34.8%, compared with Michigan at 36.1% and Ohio at 36.9%.

That means Hoosiers are running slightly lower than both neighboring states, even though all three remain above the national average.

For national comparison, West Virginia has the highest adult obesity rate in the country at 41.4%, while Colorado is the lowest at 25%.

The CDC says the latest numbers continue to highlight the need for prevention and treatment efforts, especially across the Midwest, where obesity rates remain among the highest in the nation.
