(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales has been barred from non-public areas of the Marion County Elections Service Center following allegations he violated campaign law.

The Marion County Election Board voted unanimously to impose the ban after reviewing a campaign video from Morales that officials say included footage recorded while he was performing official duties.

Election officials claim the video showed Morales interacting with poll workers inside the election center -- footage they argue was produced using taxpayer-funded resources and then used for campaign purposes.

The board has referred its findings to the Indiana State Inspector General, who could decide whether to pursue disciplinary action. Possible consequences range from a formal reprimand to potential prosecution.

Morales' campaign disputes the allegations, calling them "meritless" and politically motivated.

Election officials say the restriction is intended to protect staff, poll workers, and election operations while the issue is reviewed.

Morales is up for reelection in November, where he is expected to face challengers including Democrat Beau Bayh and former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.
