(LEBANON) - Gov. Mike Braun joined executives from Meta Platforms Inc. on Wednesday to break ground on a more than $10 billion data center campus in Lebanon.

The project will be located in the LEAP Innovation and Research District and is expected to span approximately 1,500 acres. Plans call for 13 buildings, including 10 data center facilities, along with logistics, warehousing and administrative support space.

State officials said the campus will support more than 4,000 construction jobs during development and approximately 300 operational jobs once complete.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, described the project as one of its largest investments to date and said the facility will help power the next generation of artificial intelligence infrastructure.

According to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the company received a 35-year data center sales tax exemption tied to at least $1 billion in capital investment during its first six years. Additional incentives may apply based on future investment levels.

Meta also announced an annual grants program to support workforce development and community initiatives, along with a $1.5 million annual community impact payment to the city of Lebanon for each completed phase of the project, up to six phases.

Company officials said Meta will pay the full cost of energy used at the facility and plans to restore water consumed by the data center to local watersheds.

Meta is also nearing completion of an $800 million data center in Jeffersonville.
