(COLDWATER) -- Customers who are behind on their utility bills are being urged to take action as prolonged cold weather continues across Branch County.

The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities says customers at risk of falling behind or facing service disruptions have options available to keep utilities connected. The utility offers customized payment plans and is encouraging customers to contact customer service as soon as possible.

Customers can call the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities at 517-279-9531 to discuss payment arrangements and available assistance.

Branch County residents can also seek help through Michigan 2-1-1, a free service that connects people with community resources for utility assistance, rent support, and other needs. Residents can dial 2-1-1 or visit mi211.org for more information.

CBPU officials say early communication is key to avoiding service interruptions during periods of extreme cold.
