Michigan Jobless Rate Unchanged In December

(LANSING) - Michigan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged in the month of December.

According to data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, the unemployment rate remained at 5%. Employment decreased by 9,000 over the month and the number of unemployed people was unchanged, resulting in a workforce decline of 9,000 in December.

Wayne Rourke, Labor Market Information Director for Michigan's Center of Data and Analytics, says the State's unemployment rate ended the year at 5%, after peaking at 5.5% during the first half of 2025. He says both employment and unemployment levels receded throughout the year, causing a sizable drop in the Michigan labor force.

The largest increase in employment over the month was 1.4% in Natural Resources and Mining and 0.7% in Information.
