Steuben County Remains Under Level Three Snow Emergency
Wednesday, February 10, 2010
Written by: Jim Measel

(ANGOLA) - Steuben County remains under a Level Three Snow Emergency because of the winter storm which moved in on Tuesday morning. What that means according to guidelines from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security is that routine travel or activities maybe restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation. Citizens should use caution or avoid these areas. Conditions improved enough in DeKalb County on Wednesday to allow the county to lift its Level Two Snow Emergency. Meanwhile, LaGrange Counties was under a travel warning while Williams County in northwest Ohio was under Level One Snow Emergency. In Williams County, a Level 1 Snow Emergency means caution should be used. The Winter Storm Warning for much of northern Indiana, southern lower Michigan and northwest Ohio has expired but a freezing rain advisory was issued for LaGrange, Noble and DeKalb Counties until 7:00am on Thursday morning. Steuben County officials are asking residents to only use the 911 system for emergencies. The County has activated the 211 system this is to be used for NON emergency requests such as requests for Medications, Personal Medical needs or any other non emergency requests. Officials are also asking residents to call 665-3131 to report road hazards in the County and 665-2121 for road hazards in the City of Angola. This is to be used only if there is a road hazard such as roads that are impassable or large drifts. This is not to be used to gather road information such as roads that are closed and county emergency levels.
