(HAMILTON LAKE) - Steuben County Coroner Bill Harter says bones that were found on the north side of Hamilton Lake on Saturday night were those of a prehistoric Native American.
Harter says University of Indianapolis archaeologists made the confirmation on Monday after they made a forensic study of the skeletal remains. He adds the remains will be looked at further by the Indiana State Museum.
The remains were discovered by a Hamilton Lake resident near the shoreline at Lane 221-BA at about 7:00pm on Saturday evening.
After the initial discovery was made, divers from the D.N.R. and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department along with the Steuben County SCURRT Team found more human skeletal remains on Sunday.
Assisting Conservation Officers were the Steuben County Coroners Office, the Steuben County Sheriff's Department, Hamilton Police and the Hamilton Fire Department.
