Cops for Kids Event Happens Thursday Night
Thursday, December 13, 2018

The annual Cops for Kids shopping event happens Thursday night. Police officers, fire fighters, and other emergency responders from Steuben County take area kids out shopping who come from families who need a little extra help for the winter season and Christmas Holiday.

Funds for the Cops for Kids programmed are raised through the annual WLKI Pie Auction held just before the Thanksgiving Holiday. This year's auction raised right around $47,000.00, but Indiana State Representative Denny Zent and community member Frank Baade wanted to see that amount hit the 50-thousand-dollar mark. The two pulled together their personal resources and funds together to make it happen.

Frank Baade said that he simply "enjoys giving" toward the annual program.

Area kids will shop Thursday evening at the Angola Meijer. Store officials at the newly renovated Meijer say that each youngster and their family will leave their shopping trip with what they call, "Christmas Dinner in a Box", which includes many fresh food items from Meijer, including a Christmas ham.

If you see a long line of emergency vehicles on the streets of Angola Thursday night near the local Meijer store, don't be alarmed...it's just a beacon of light that reminds us all of the spirit of giving that happens from a community like ours.
