Sunday Storms Rock Area
By: Mike Stiles - Monday, June 21, 2021

UNDATED – Several severe storms moved through the listening area Sunday
evening and into early Monday morning.

The first line of storms hit the area about 7:25 PM, bringing heavy rain and winds between 50 and 60 MPH. More rain and wind was reported shortly after 9:30 PM and at 9:47 PM the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for eastern Branch County after a trained spotter and radar reported the tornado that moved over the Coldwater area and touched down before heading east.

Then around 1 AM Monday, another front moved into the area. A Tornado Warning was issued for Cass County and for Northwest St. Joseph County until 2 AM. Sirens around St. Joseph County activated but no touch downs have been reported. The rain and winds knocked down limbs and trees and also took out power around the listening area. Crews are out trying to get electric service restored to their customers.

Consumers Energy is reporting 521 customers in St. Joseph County and 4.317 in Branch County are currently without electricity. Indiana-Michigan Power says there are 378 of their customers in St. Joseph County and 616 in Cass County without service. NIPSCO Energy in Northern Indiana says they have customers also without electricity.

All of the electric companies that serve the listening area say power should be restored to their customers by late morning or early afternoon.
