Indiana’s Main Street Program Luncheon Held on Tuesday
Wednesday, December 4, 2019

A cross section of community leaders attended a luncheon Tuesday to learn about Indiana’s Main Street Program.

The program provides technical assistance and educational opportunities to participating communities on downtown revitalization.

Andrea Kern from Indiana’s Office of Rural and Community Affairs said
that Lagrange has a wealth of historic buildings downtown to work with.

The Main Street program’s 4-point approach focuses on Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Vitality.

Kern says the program is undergoing some change at the state level and now would be a good time for Lagrange to get in.

The first steps involve putting together a core team of people to hold a
town hall style meeting, identifying potential board members and choosing a name.

The group would need to incorporate as a nonprofit. Among those attending were Focus Lagrange and Emerging Leaders members, LaGrange County Chamber of Commerce and Community Foundation, and Lakeland School officials.
