Two children are dead after a grain trailer ran them over at a Kosciusko County Farm Tuesday afternoon.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department said around 1:45 p.m., emergency responders were called out to a property in the area of 5370 W. 1350 N. to reports of two small children who had been hit by a truck.

Upon emergency crews arrival they found a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old child near a semi with an attached grain trailer.

It is believed by police that Benjamin Sheets, age 26 of Nappanee, began pulling the grain trailer forward after it had been loaded with grain. As the semi moved forward, the children who were presumably underneath were struck. They died from their injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Fatal Team.
