Indiana House Speaker To Retire After 2020 Session
Wednesday, November 20, 2019

Republican Speaker Brian Bosma told lawmakers Tuesday that he would continue in the powerful position that largely controls which proposals are considered until the upcoming session ends in March as Bosma said he would not seek reelection in 2020 after spending 34 years in the House.

Bosma has presided over the House as Republicans took major steps such as creating the state’s private school voucher program, leasing the Indiana Toll Road to a private operator and adopting statewide daylight saving time.

Bosma, age 62, and an Indianapolis resident has been speaker since 2011 and also held the post in 2005-06. Bosma also said his future plans include becoming chairman of the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee and continue working at an Indianapolis law firm.
