Aerial Spraying For EEE In LaGrange
Tuesday, October 1, 2019

Health officials and LaGrange County Commissioners are working on a plan to do aerial spraying for mosquitoes after two horses in the Wolcottville area tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

The area targeted for spraying includes the Dallas Lake, Atwood Lake and Witmer Lake areas.

Using low volume spraying of the pesticide Dibrom which suspends in the air and kills mosquitoes on contact, they hope to contain the EEE virus. The virus is fatal in about one-third of infected humans.

While the spraying is expected to kill 90-percent of mosquitoes, residents are still urged to take precautions until the first hard freeze.

Residents will be notified before the spraying begins so they can protect ornamental fish ponds and bee hives.
