Authorities Respond to a Reported Possible Bomb Threat

On 09/27/2019 just after 1:30 pm, Steuben County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the McDonald's restaurant located in the 6800 block of North Old US 27 in Steuben County's rural Jamestown Township on a report of a possible bomb threat that was allegedly received by the business via telephone.

Upon arrival of responding deputies, the business was closed and evacuated. The area was secured with a perimeter by responding law enforcement and fire department personnel. The Indiana state Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team was called to the scene to assist which included an explosives detection K-9 until. Old US 27 had to be closed to traffic and surrounding businesses were advised to keep people inside during the incident. Searches of the parking lot and the interior of the building were conducted and there were no indications of any explosives detected anywhere. Once the building and immediate area had been cleared, the area was opened up for normal business and normal traffic flow just at 4:00 pm.

No injuries were reported during the evacuation. The case still remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.

Assisting the Sheriff's Office at the scene were the Indiana State Police, Fremont Police, Fremont Fire Department, and Steuben County EMS.
