A structure fire on North Wayne Street in Angola, across from the Wal Mart and Flagstar Bank branch gave area fire crews an early start to the week.

Two females were reportedly injured as a result of the blaze. Their names were not available.

Emergency crews responded to the house fire at 2209 North Wayne Street, which was reported just before 6:30 a.m.

Heavy fire and smoke was seen bellowing from the home when it was first reported. It took multiple fire crews about a half hour to get the flames under control. Crews were able to control the flames and prevent surrounding structures from suffering any additional damage.

The home was occupied by Rodell and Richard Rickerd and owned by Barbara A. Hocker.

Several family pets were reported in the residence at the time of the fire and their condition was unknown.

Traffic heading in the south bound direction was rerouted Monday morning during the incident.

Assisting Angola City emergency employees on the scene were Fire Departments from Fremont, Ashley-Hudson and Steuben Township. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, and Steuben County EMS, and NIPSCO also provided assistance.
