The Farm Wagon from the Community Harvest Food Bank in Ft Wayne visits Project HELP at 600 N. Williams Street in Angola and distributes FREE FOOD every Monday from 10:30am-12:30pm! The food is mostly perishable items and there are no requirements to receive the food, which will simply be served on a first-come, first-served basis. For more info call Project HELP at 665-9697.

The Steuben County Council on Aging now has a mini-mart offering a variety of food and other supplies for seniors over age 60 who meet the required guidelines, and is open on the 2nd AND 4th Thursday of every month from 11am-2pm. The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Northeast Indiana Chapter is holding support group meetings the 2nd Wednesday of every month at the Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County in Angola. Everyone is welcome.

The local chapter of CAVA, the Community Anti-Violence Alliance, is accepting donations of cell phone with chargers that will then be programmed to only call 911 and given to victims of domestic violence. For information please call 624-3600 and leave a message. Volunteers are also needed to help CAVA serve the needs of battered women in Steuben County.

The Steuben County Council on Aging is offering you the opportunity to pay honor, tribute, or in memory of a loved one in whatever way you choose by sponsoring a sign for the Council on Aging vans for $125 per month. Cameron Home Care and Hospice invites those experiencing loss through death to attend a free weekly grief support group, for ages teen through adult, every Tuesday from 5:00- 6:30pm in the Home Care and Hospice Conference Room on the second floor of Cameron Hospital in Angola. The Steuben County Health Resources Board of Directors and Project HELP of Steuben County
are offering a Medical Voucher Program to provide free doctor's office visits for uninsured or under-insured individuals visit or call Project HELP at 600 N. Williams Street in Angola.

Safe Haven, an organization serving people affected by domestic violence, has a victim crisis hotline phone number for people calling from Steuben County. It is 463-3400 or you can call toll free at 1-866-463-3400. Save Haven could also use volunteers for the crisis hotline. Call 463-3400 for an application or more information.

Project HELP of Steuben County is in need of donations of fall and winter clothing in GOOD condition. They also need donations of cleaning supplies, bar soap, laundry soap, dish soap, and shampoo. Project HELP is located at 600 N. Williams Street in Angola. Drop off hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am-4pm. Please do not leave donations outside when the office is closed.

Project HELP of Steuben County is now asking for monetary donations, rather than food donations, as they can purchase food for the needy at significantly discounted prices, getting much more food per dollar. Food donations won't be turned away, of course. Project Help is located at 600 N. Williams Street in Angola. Phone is 665-9697.

Cameron Memorial Hospital Home Care and Hospice invites all those who provide in-home care to loved ones to attend FREE monthly Caregiver Support Group meetings held on the third Tuesday of every month from 2-3pm at Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County on S. The Steuben County Council on Aging is collecting coupons, either expired or not, to send to our military persons overseas. You can take them to Betty Rathbun at the Steuben County Council on Aging, inside the Steuben Community Center in Angola.

The American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana still has an IMMEDIATE need for volunteers for both their Single Family Disaster Team to assist families forced from their homes due to disasters, and their Armed Forces Emergency Services that helps provide a communication link between members of the Armed Forces and their families. The MOMS Club of Angola is a group for Steuben County moms who work part-time or are stay at home moms. They offer many activities - activities for moms , activities for moms and kids, family activities, playgroups, park days, beach days and lots more. The MOMS Club also takes on many service projects that benefit our community. The MOMS Club is a great way to meet friends and get involved with the community. Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County is offering a free drop-in knitting circle for all levels of experience and ages with instructor Barb Doty. Bring a work in progress, if you wish, every Tuesday from 10:30am-12 noon, at the library on South Wayne Street in Angola.

The Steuben County Council on Aging has very inexpensive all-occasion greeting cards for sale in the Council on Aging's "Take A Break" Room, which is open to everyone on Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 8am-4pm.

The Fremont Community Church will be serving a free community meal every Wednesday from 6-7:30pm in the Fremont Community Church Activity Center located two blocks east of the stoplight in Fremont.

The Angola Lions Club is collecting used eye glasses and hearing aids. The Steuben County REMC building is the drop-off point.

Friends of the Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County are accepting tax-deductible donations of gently used books for their sale table in the reference department of the library. Donation forms are available at the front desk of the library. Feel free to stop in and browse the sale table during regular library hours.

Aging and In-Home Services is offering a their Family Caregiver Program for anyone age 60 or older who needs help with at least two activities of daily living, or has cognitive impairment, or who is taking care of a grandchild age 18 or younger. To apply please call 1-800-552-3662.

Steuben County Council on Aging is now offering a low impact exercise class (you won't even leave your chair!) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:30am in the Steuben County Council on Aging Multi-Purpose Room in the Steuben Community Center on S. Wayne in Angola. Everybody is welcome!

The Steuben County Council on Aging is offering Adult Day Service as a practical alternative to nursing home care or for adults who need limited assistance. The service is available Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8am-4pm, but closed holidays in Suite 1B of the Steuben Community Center at 317 S. Wayne Street in Angola. The Steuben County Mobile Meals Program is in need of volunteers to deliver meals prepared by the Cameron Memorial Hospital dietary staff to home bound clients weekdays from 10:30am -12 noon. If you are interested and available any weekday morning during that time, call Penny at 833-3403.

The Branch Area Food Pantry is open Monday through Friday from 1-4pm Michigan time for any Branch County resident in need of foodstuffs. They are located at 66 Harrison Street in Coldwater.

Project HELP in Angola is available to help those in need on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10am-4pm. They're located at 600 N. Williams Street in Angola. Project Help also accepts donations non-perishable food items as well as gently used clothing and furniture.

The Steuben County Council on Aging has a program called "Second Wind Dreams" where they try fulfill the hopes and dreams of senior citizens and disabled persons throughout Steuben County, and are asking for the names of people who have a dream of any kind that the Council on Aging can work towards fulfilling, as well as community members to become "Dream Weavers" and contribute to making these dreams come true. The Steuben County Council on Aging has an Assistant to the Homebound program for homebound older adults or handicapped individuals, where staff will schedule visits to the person's home and provide monitoring of needs along with an errand service providing, among other things: Obtaining and transportation of prescriptions, groceries, or other personal items; Escorting the person to medical appointments; And carrying out necessary business transactions according to the person's directions. Senior Health Insurance Information (SHIIP) assistance is available every Tuesday from 10-11am in the Game Room of the Steuben County Council on Aging inside the Steuben Community Center in Angola.

The Steuben County Council on Aging has a Homemaker Program that provides light housekeeping services for older adults who can maintain independent living, but need help with household tasks. Donations are accepted and always appreciated. The homemakers are screened before being accepted. Call the Steuben County Council on Aging at 665-9856 for more info, or to perhaps offer your services to this program.

The Steuben County Council on Aging Van Service offers transportation for persons age 60 and over, by donation only, all over Steuben County, and even out of the county. Just call 665-9856 24 hours in advance to schedule a ride to where you need to go, including local and out of town Medicaid trips. Donations by any caring individual to maintain this service are very much appreciated and very much needed!

The Steuben County Council on Aging has a Senior Bowling League that meets Tuesdays and Fridays at 2:45pm at Angola Bowl. You don't have to bowl every time, only when you want to. For more information, call Arnie at 833-1902.

Mom's On the Move of Angola meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month, and invite you to join them for fellowship through lots and lots of family oriented activities for your children, just the moms, just the dads, couples, and the whole family. Some features include individual playgroups, the kids club, and the Sunshine Meal program. Membership is open to everyone and only costs $20 for the activity fee. Aging and In-home Services of Northeast Indiana is offering a service called Angelworx, which matches up pen-pal volunteers, called Angels, of all ages with lonely seniors or disabled persons in any of the Indiana counties in the WLKI listening area. For more information on the Angelworx program, call Emily at 219-745-1200. In addition to writing personal letters, volunteers are encouraged to do intentional acts of kindness with their match. In addition to the pen pal program, your group can join Angelworx and tackle larger tasks for seniors or disabled persons.

The Angola American Legion hosts a singles dance the 3rd Saturday of every month at the Angola American Legion on U.S. 20 West. All singles are invited!

Aging and in-home services of Northeast Indiana, Inc. serves nutritious lunches for senior citizens age 60 or over or married to someone age 60 or over. Guests under 60 are charged $5.25, persons 60 or over donate whatever they can afford for the meal, served daily throughout the area.

The Family Caregiver Program at Aging and In-Home Services of Northeast Indiana has started a respite program to help the caregivers of older people residing in Northeast Indiana by paying for a substitute caregiver to provide care at home when the usual caregiver needs to be absent. Michiana Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Steuben County is very much in need of volunteers to match up with many, many children still on the waiting list for a Big Brother or Big Sister.
