Steuben County April Unemployment at 8.1%
Friday, May 17th, 2013
(UNDATED) - Figures released by Indiana Workforce Development on Friday indicated that Steuben County's unemployment rate went down sharply in April to 8.1 percent. That's down from the March jobless rate of 9.5 percent. Steuben County's workforce also increased by 161 workers with 386 more members of the workforce able to find jobs when compared to March. The unemployment rates in neighboring counties showed the same kind of drop of nearly one-and-a-half percent. Noble County was also at 8.1 percent while DeKalb County was at eight percent and LaGrange County was at 6.7 percent. The statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down to 8.5 percent which officials say was the largest one month decrease in over a year. Over 6,800 private sector jobs were added in Indiana over the last month. Workforce Development Commissioner Scott Sanders says the April employment picture is cause for cautious optimism. He added while there is more work to do, things seem to be moving in the right direction.

Swick Broadcasting Moving Into "Big Green Building"
Friday, May 17th, 2013
(ANGOLA) - Swick Broadcasting is literally going downhill. After broadcasting on top of Hoosier Hill north of Angola since the late 1980's, the broadcast group will soon be moving its studios and offices south to the "Big Green Building" at 330 Intertech Parkway where the building offers 36,000 square feet. You may see the "For Sale" sign in front of the current building but owner Steve Swick, who recently purchased the Intertech Parkway property, emphasizes WLKI Radio is staying in Angola. Swick purchased Lake Cities Broadcasting in 2008. There was only one station when WLKI first moved to 2655 North U.S. 127. That changed in the 90's when WLZZ "Wheels 104.5 and WTHD "Thunder Country 105.5" signed on. Two stations in Sturgis, Michigan were later bought and eventually four more stations came into the fold. With nine stations now in the group, the operation had outgrown its space in the current building. Some of the broadcasters have been forced to share studios with engineering equipment. There was also a space crunch for technology equipment. The building that currently houses Swick Broadcasting is now on the market. With larger space to operate out of on Intertech Parkway, the staff and management of Swick Broadcasting hope to continue serving their loyal listeners in Steuben County and throughout northeast Indiana, northwest Ohio and southern Lower Michigan.
